In January 2007, as I sat in my cubicle in Corporate America pondering my purpose here on Earth, I thought, “There has to be more.”
Although my career had served me well in a material sense, it lacked passion. But asking “Isn’t there more?” launched me onto a path of self-discovery.
I asked myself question after question, seeking the answer of what my purpose and my passion was. This led me to conversations with friends and colleagues, who helped me determine what I was passionate about.
When I looked back at all the roles that I had played in my corporate careers, from COO to store manager to team leader, it was all about the people. I loved the idea of empowering others, helping them find their authentic self and get on their path.
There’s a saying, “Do what you love and the rest will follow.” I’m a living example of that statement. Like all lives, mine has been a series of twists and turns, ups and downs, ins and outs. But following the breadcrumbs and staying true to my path is what has allowed me to live my passion for the last decade.
I believe that if everyone on this planet took the time to discover what they are passionate about and channeled their creativity, the world would be a better, happier place.
When most people hear the word creativity, they think they have to become an artist. Not true. Creativity comes in all sorts of shapes and forms – it’s the energy that fuels your passion. Creativity makes you who you are. You could put 20 people in the same room to solve a problem. More than likely there would be 20 different “creative” solutions.
Many people say, “Carolyn, I have no idea what I am passionate about and I’m surely not creative.”
I say the reason you don’t know is because you’ve been told who you should be the majority of your life, versus finding out who you really are. You don’t know because you haven’t yet taken the time to look deep inside and explore your heart. Rather than think your way through it, ask your heart. It holds the key. The answers are there – all you have to do is start looking and the breadcrumbs will appear.
Sometimes, doing what you love takes courage and a leap of faith. Sometimes, it requires you to step into the unknown. I ask my clients, “How badly do you want your life? Because you’re the only one that can change it.”

When I think of creativity, I think of your soul energy – how you use your heart and imagination to make the world a better place. Whether your calling is big or small makes no difference. What matters is that you are happy.
